There's no use applying for subsidized housing if the rest of the costs — groceries, transportation, insurance, all of it — won't fit once the rent is paid. This tool estimates your likely rent share and the local Fair Market Rent for your area, then sketches out roughly what should remain for everything else, so you can sanity-check a unit before you fall in love with it.
These figures are estimates based on HUD's published Fair Market Rent and Income Limit data for your area — they are a starting point for your own research, not a determination of eligibility or an offer of assistance. Your local PHA applies additional adjustments (deductions for elderly/disabled members, medical and childcare expenses, and more) that can change your actual numbers. Always confirm with your PHA.
